Merritt Update Apr 09, 2010

Note: For fiscal year 2010/11 the Merritt and Lillooet TSA's have been combined. Associated projects and activities for both TSA's will be reported under the Merritt TSA.

1) A project is underway to complete the planting in both the Merritt and Lillooet TSA's. Merritt will have 435 ha's reforested with 584,792 trees. The areas to be planted are the Friday and Lawless fires along with Surrey-Sussex Lake and the Dardanelles areas that were impacted by Mountain Pine Beetle. In the Lillooet TSA there will be 497 ha's reforested with 729,288 trees. The areas in Lillooet include the Seton, Sleetis, Seton Ridge and Town Creek fires including an Ainsworth block which was also consumed in the 2009 fire. In addition, areas in McKay Flats and Nicoamen Creek impacted by Mountain Pine Beetle will also be reforested. The entire project will utilize 5 contractors to complete the planting.
The combined area to be reforested is 932 ha's with 1,314,080 trees.
