Kootenay Lake TSA update
The following activities are on-going in the Kootenay Lake TSA:

  • Wildfire surveys in Hope Creek, Skelly Creek, Sanca, Skinner, Irishman, Cowley and Lake Creek fire areas.  These are stocking surveys to determine the next course of action and to determine if further treatment is warranted.
  • Danger Tree Assessing in Sitkum and Hope Creek fire areas.  A First Nations contractor has been hired to complete the Danger Tree Assessments for areas proposed for planting in 2010.
  • Mechanical site preparation of 15 ha+/- in Cooper Creek to prepare ground for 2010 planting
  • Job Opportunities Project in Cooper Creek; 15 ha of manual slashing to prepare ground for 2010 planting
  • Manual Brushing project in Skinner Creek; 100 ha of hand brushing to enhance seedling growth and survival
  • Planning for 2010 planting.  400,000 seedlings will be planted in the Kootenay Lake TSA in the spring of 2010.  Contracts are being tendered (see FFT bid opportunities for details) and seedlings are online.  Areas to be planted in 2010 are:  Sitkum, Cooper, Skinner, Sanca and Hope Creek.
